My name is Emily, and I graduated from ASU's dietetics program in Spring of 2015. I decided to take a year off to get stable financially before heading to a dietetic internship, so I'm taking my time working, gaining experience in the nutrition world, and enjoying all of the things I enjoyed before life got chaotic and busy with school.
I am a native Arizonan, born and raised here for all 22 years of my life. I grew up swimming competitively on a USA Swimming club team, and gained a love for the sport and other forms of exercise through that experience. I love anything having to do with water, be it swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, or creek hopping. I have yet to try surfing, but trust me - I'm on my way there. I currently maintain my fitness by working out at a gym, doing yoga at home and at an aerial studio, hiking and trail running, and swimming. I compete in open water swims, and I have swam Alcatraz and several lakes here in Arizona, including Lake Pleasant, Canyon Lake, and scariest of all, Tempe Town Lake.
My love for food and healthy eating comes from being raised on gardens and farmer's markets. I loved going to the tiny health food stores (back then there were no Whole Foods, etc. around here) with my mom, begging her to buy carob globe candies and honeycombs (even though I also enjoyed regular candy and chocolate like normal children). I was home schooled until 8th grade, and my mom was really big on teaching us in a way that we controlled our learning. From this, I gained a huge interest in science. I was always intrigued by the unknown and the complexity of the human body, but that story is for me to write in an actual post :)
